Behavior Technician (BT)

The role of the BT is to provide direct Applied Behavior Analytic (ABA) therapy to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) and related disabilities. ABA therapy will be programs designed and overseen by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and will be implemented based on principles of Applied Behavior Analysis.

The BT’s direct supervisor is the BCBA who designs and monitors the client’s programming; therefore, one BT might take direction from multiple BCBAs.  Furthermore, the BT should be open to receiving specific training on programming and ABA generally from each BCBA.

Essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide direct ABA therapy in a 1:1 format to children with ASDs and related developmental disabilities across the home, community, and private daycare settings
  • Implement programming based on discrete trial teaching, incidental teaching, and task analysis
  • Attends scheduled sessions, arriving and departing on time
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized therapy environment
  • Maintain strict client confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA
  • Implement programming according to the curriculum and/or behavior plan as designed by the BCBA
  • Collect data accurately and use systems in place to flag concerns immediately to BCBAs
  • Provide direct ABA therapy in an ethical manner as outlined in the BACB Ethics Code
  • Assist with caregiver training under the direction of the BCBA
  • Maintain a positive attitude and participate as a part of a team.
  • Accept feedback and training in a professional manner and incorporate feedback into performance
  • Communicate client’s daily progress and performance clearly and efficiently to caregivers
  • Communicate with clients, caregivers, and other Elmtree staff in a courteous, professional, ethical, and efficient manner
  • Attend/complete required trainings or certifications
  • Complete required documentation and paperwork in a timely manner
  • Adhere to Elmtree ABA Services’ policies and procedures as outlined in the current Employee Handbook

Location(s)

  • Clients may be seen in their homes, the community, or private school setting (e.g., daycare). Sessions may be held in multiple locations in one day requiring employees to provide their own transportation between locations.

Requirements

  • Must genuinely enjoy working with young people of varying ages
  • At least one (1) year of ABA experience required
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable means of transportation
  • Bachelor’s Degree, in ABA, Psychology, or related field preferred
  • Must be physically fit, able to move quickly, and able to lift at least 30 lbs. Must be able to bend/stoop, squat/crouch, climb, kneel, and twist. Must be comfortable sitting on the floor and able to move from a sitting (on the floor) to standing position quickly
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills,  and interpersonal skills
  • Computer skills related to Google Workspace (formerly GSuite, including Docs, Sheets, Forms, etc.) and reliable internet access
  • Working with individuals with disabilities and their families may include unusual job stress. Children or their caregivers may be in crisis and look to Elmtree employees for help and support. BTs must be able to remain calm in stressful situations and comfortable asking for help or additional training when needed
