Sarah has been with Elmtree since the beginning – January, 2017 – and has been working with individuals on the autism spectrum since 2009.
Sarah earned her Bachelor’s degree from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, where she majored in Psychology and minored in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Child and Family Studies. She earned her Master’s degree in ABA from Simmons College. She has been a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) since 2012 and she is licensed as an Applied Behavior Analyst (LABA) in the state of Massachusetts.
Sarah has worked in private and public schools, clinics, community camps, and in the home setting, providing therapy for children with ASD, ADHD, OCD, anxiety, social skill difficulties, executive functioning skill deficits, and other emotional and/or behavioral disorders. She believes that you can teach children language, social skills, and daily living skills through play and parent involvement. She has additional training in Collaborative Problem Solving, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness.
Sarah uses warm empathetic support, positive reinforcement, and empirically based methodology to help children feel more successful in their home. She believes that behavior therapy should be a fun and enjoyable process for all children. She is passionate about empowering her clients and learns from the families she supports. She believes that every child is capable of reaching their full potential, and strives to support her clients on this path to optimal functioning. Sarah supports parents in implementing positive behavior plans in the home to effectively de-escalate maladaptive behavior and teach self-regulation skills. She believes in understanding the child as a “whole” and uses a family-oriented, culturally sensitive, and child-focused approach. As a mother of 3 girls she understands what it is like to be a parent and provides positive, warm support to meet each family’s needs.
